The bamboo steamer has been used in Asia for centuries and if you get one you'll understand why it hasn't gone out of fashion. Steaming is obviously much lower in calories than frying… and its simple to use too just place it over or in a pot that has boiling water in the bottom of it. Two tiers allow you to put say your veggies on one level and your chicken or prawns on another. After you're finished cooking you can serve the meal right out of the steamer which will give your table a certain international panache.
