Cal-Plus With Biotin Suitable for: All horse on grain-based diets, foals and young horses, pregnant mares, horses fed sub-tropical grasses and hays, and horses with hoof problems such as cracks, brittleness and separation of the white line. Founded in 1968 by a veterinarian by the name of Pierre-Richard Dick, Virbac is dedicated exclusively to animal health, formulating a range of veterinary pharmaceuticals, vaccines and a wide range of pet care products for horses, dogs and cats. Cal-Plus With Biotin is a calcium, biotin (a B-complex vitamin) and vitamin supplement for horses. High-grain diets and sub-tropical grasses such as Pangolin, Kikuyu, Buffalo and Green Panic are commonly low in calcium or contain oxalates which bind the calcium, making it unavailable to the horse. Calcium deficiencies can impact the growth and formation of the hoof wall and may lead to growth abnormalities in young animals, bone and joint disorders. One level scoop contains 30 grams. Racing horses (450 – 500kg): Thoroughbred: 60 – 90g Standardbred: 90 – 110g Quarter Horse: 70 – 90g Arabians: 60 – 75g Performance horses: Endurance: 60 – 120g Eventers: 60 – 105g Showjumpers: 60g Polo horses: 60 – 90g Show/Dressage horses: 60g Ponies (225 – 250kg): 45 – 60g Other horses (breeding, growing, older horses): 1 scoopful (30g) per 200kg of bodyweight. Note: Horses in fast/hard work, on high-grain diets, or that sweat heavily should receive the higher recommended dosage. Regrowth of a healthy hoof may take between 6 – 9 months.
